The Working Paper “Views on the Future of Europe from the EU’s Neighbouring Countries”, initiated by the European Institute of Romania, was designed as a mean to bring together experts from the EU’s neighbouring countries discussing the future of European Union and of bilateral relations, while providing a broader context for the discussions about future challenges. To conduct this research, we gathered the contributions of 23 experts from the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia), Turkey and the three Eastern Partnership members of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine).
The views expressed by the experts address the European Union’s main challenges and priorities in its relations with the countries and governments in the neighbourhood. Furthermore, they refer to their expectations regarding how the EU should address these relations, and their own countries’ contributions to advancing the European project in their regions.
