The administrative board comprises nine members, appointed according to the provisions of art. 8 of the Government Ordinance 15/1998 as subsequently amended.
The chairman of the administrative board and four of the members are appointed by the Prime Minister, following the recommendation of the State Secretary in charge with the coordination of the Department for European Affairs. The Romanian Academy, the Parliament, through its Committee of European Affairs, employers’ associations and national trade-union organizations each appoint one member of the Administrative Board.
The assignments of the administrative board are the following:
- approving the EIR’s strategy and policies;
- appointing and recalling the Director General of the European Institute of Romania;
- discussing upon the annual program, which is submitted for approval to the Department of European Affairs, at the initiative of the Director General;
- discussing upon the annual report of the EIR, at the initiative of the Director General and then submitting for approval to the Department for European Affairs;
- discussing upon the annual budget proposal, then submitted for approval to the Department of European Affairs, at the initiative of the Director General, and also the last year’s
- implementation of the budget;
- approving the Director General’s report regarding its budgetary discharge for the envisaged period;
- approving EIR’s structure, statute and internal regulations;
- approving the cooperation with national and international organizations, as well as the affiliation to various international organizations.
