Human rights

The Translation Coordination Unit provides translations and linguistic and legal revisions of different documents concerning human rights.

On our website, these documents are classified into three broad categories: the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the observance of human rights at the level of the United Nations Organization (UN) and the fight against anti-Semitism.

ECHR case-law

More than 40 000 standard pages of judgments and decisions against Romania or other states, guides, factsheets and other information documents on the ECHR case-law are available on our site.

Since January 2009, we have been translating and revising various documents on the ECHR case-law. Currently, we are carrying out this type of activity on the basis of the Protocol signed by the EIR with the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Government Agent for the European Court of Human Rights from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Between 1 August 2023 and 1 April 2024, we implemented a Grant Agreement signed with the Council of Europe to facilitate the translation into Romanian of the HUDOC user interface and of certain relevant documents relating to the ECHR case-law.

By translating such documents, we are contributing to the implementation of Recommendation CM/Rec(2021)4 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to member states on the publication and dissemination of the European Convention on Human Rights, the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and other relevant texts.

UN human rights monitoring mechanisms

In the first semester of 2020, the EIR signed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) a Bilateral cooperation protocol concerning the translation and revision of certain documents adopted by the UN human rights monitoring mechanisms established by conventional instruments to which Romania is party or by other UN documents, as well as other documents relating to the monitoring activity.

Combating antisemitism

In March 2024, the MFA and the EIR signed a protocol concerning the translation and revision of certain documents on combating antisemitism.

The databases containing translations are available only in Romanian.
