On June 5, 2025, the European Commission adopted the European Ocean Pact. This document, announced as one of the Commission’s priorities for 2024-2029, aims to put forward measures to protect the global ocean and support a sustainable blue economy, with the goal of maintaining the quality of life in Europe. Published a few days before the UN Ocean Conference in Nice (7-13 June 2025), event co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, the European Ocean Pact was presented by the President of the European Commission at the conference on June 9, 2025. On this occasion, a financial support of EUR 1 billion was also announced in support of the scientific work that contributes to the conservation of the planetary ocean.
