Editorial release: The United States and the Future of Europe

The European Institute of Romania announces the publication of the 7th issue of the book series „The Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals”, an emblematic editorial project led by TEPSA*. The 2025 collective volume, coordinated by Michael Kaeding, Johannes Pollak and Paul Schmidt, focuses on the topic of the transatlantic relationship. It brings forward national perspectives (both from the EU’s member states, and the EU’s neighbouring countries) on EU–US relations, and on the public perception of the transatlantic relationship.

The contributions, dedicated to the national viewpoints on this theme, have been authored by more than 60 experts from 41 European states. Moreover, the authors set forth a series of recommendations for their country’s approach towards the bilateral relationship and the transatlantic one. The chapter rendering Romania’s outlook has been written by Mihai Sebe, Head of the European Affairs Department, and by Eliza Vaș, Coordinator of the Studies Unit, European Institute of Romania, between September and November 2024. They argue that a more pragmatic approach in the bilateral relationship is expected within the framework of the Strategic Partnership between the US and Romania. However, they also emphasize the results achieved through bipartisan support, over the course of different US presidential administrations.

The book was published by Springer and can be purchased here.

*TEPSA is the acronym for the Trans European Policy Studies Association, the first trans-European research network in the field of European affairs. The European Institute of Romania has become a full-fledged member of TEPSA in 2021, and has ever since contributed to its publications with a series of research materials on different topics.
