Editorial release: The European path of the Western Balkans. Between “enlargement fatigue”, external influences and integration

The European integration of the Western Balkans countries remains an ambitious goal, as further prolonging the process risks enhancing the regional economic and political influence of third countries like the Russian Federation and China. Ionuț-Mircea Marcu, EIR expert, argues, in a new entry in the working papers series, that it is very important for the European Union to overcome the “enlargement fatigue” paradigm. Among others, the Conference on the future of Europe could present such an opportunity.
