On the 1st of July, Denmark took over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for a period of six months. The Danish Presidency is part of the Poland-Denmark-Cyprus trio that will end on the 1st of July, 2026. “A strong Europe in a changing world” – the motto under which the current mandate is taking place – reflects the volatility of the international system and the complex challenges that Europe is currently facing. Two key priorities are assumed during this Presidency: (1) a secure Europe and (2) a competitive and green Europe.
On this occasion, the EIR is pleased to announce the publication of the opinion titled The Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU: “A strong Europe in a changing world”, written by Iohana-Georgia Burcea, expert within the Studies Unit, European Affairs Department, EIR.
The paper summarizes the objectives and priorities of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Denmark aims to strengthen the Union’s security, promote competitiveness and the green transition, support the enlargement process and facilitate the first discussions on the next multiannual financial framework after 2027. The Danish Presidency also aims to contribute to better coordination between Member States in managing migration and to reduce the administrative burden by simplifying existing regulations. The opinion reflects how Denmark seeks to use this mandate to boost European unity and the Union’s capacity to adapt to new geopolitical and economic realities.
