NATO – 15 years on from its first enlargement towards East

12 March 2014 – The Romanian-American University in Bucharest (RAU) and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Romania, in collaboration with the European Institute of Romania (EIR) organised a debate on NATO – 15 years on from its first enlargement towards East.

The event was attended by H.E. Marek Szczygieł, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Romania, Mr. Mircea Geoană, Senator, President of Aspen Institute Romania, Mr. Leonard OrbanPresident of the Administration Board of EIR, former European Commissioner and Minister of European Affairs and Mr. Ovidiu Folcuţ, PhD Professor, Rector of RAU. The debate was moderated by Mrs. Gabriela Drăgan, PhD Professor, Dean of the Faculty of European Economic Studies, RAU, Director General of EIR.

Organised on the anniversary of 15 years from the accession of the Polish Republic to the Organisation of the North Atlantic Treaty, the event was intended to bring to the attention of the young public (made up mainly of students, Master and Doctoral candidates of RAU) the challenges faced by the North-Atlantic Alliance in the context of the Summit to be held in September 2014 in Newport, Great Britain.
