The European Institute of Romania (EIR) and the Representation of the European Commission in Romania organized on December 13th the conference „European Economic Governance: the Place and Role of Public Policies“.
The event had a triple meaning: the release of the Romanian version of the book Policy-making in the EU, 6thedition, (Helen Wallace- co-author and coordinator; volume translated into Romanian and published by the European Institute of Romania); 10-year anniversary of the Romanian Journal of European Affairs (RJEA), as well as the second edition of the EIR excellence awards.
The Conference enjoied the presence of Mrs. Helen Wallace, Professor Emeritus, European Institute, London School of Economics and Political Science. The event benefited from the presence of high officials of the Ministry for European Affairs, the Representation of the European Commission in Romania, European Institute of Romania, as well as well-known economic and political experts.
Regarding the EIR excellence awards, the second edition took place in the context of the European Year of Volunteering and has been dedicated to the NGOs with significant activity in promoting the European spirit and values among the Romanian public audience. Thus, over 60 NGOs have been evaluated by the Communication and Marketing Unit of the European Institute of Romania. The two essential components taken into account were volunteering and public policies, and the areas of intervention of the organizations were:fundamental rights, participatory democracy, social inclusion, education and environmental protection. The evaluation results were presented to a Group of selection composed of members of the EIR Administrative Board and members of EIR Consultative Scientific Board.
The winners of the second edition of the EIR excellence awards are: the Romanian Academic Society; Pro Vobis; the Romanian Centre for European Policies; Paneuropa Foundation; Terra Mileniul III Association; the Civil Society Development Foundation; Save the Children Romania; Junior Achievement; The National Organization of Disabled People in Romania; World Vision; the European Institute for Participative Democracy QVORUM; N.A.C.P.P.P.S.R (the National Association for Consumer Protection and Promotion of Programs and Strategies from Romania); Asociatia Pro Democratia (APD); AIESEC. Also, an award for his entire activity was given to Mr. Lucian Branea, executive secretary of the Epsilon III Association, founder of romania_eu_list and the first Editor-in-chief of the Romanian Journal of European Affairs.
