21 September 2011 – The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bucharest together with the European Institute of Romania and the Representation of the European Commission in Bucharest organised the conference with the topic: The Next EU Multiannual Financial Framework – How to stimulate growth and reduce development disparities among the EU regions?

The main topic of the event was the future budget of the European Union as main instrument in reducing the developing disparities among regions as well as the main role of the European policies in this field. The conference reached topics that are important for all the Member States, and especially for Romania, which is currently facing institutional changes aimed at improving its performances in the absorption of Structural Funds.
The event was attended by Janusz Lewandowski, European Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget, as guest of honour. Gheorghe Gherghina, Secretary of State in the Minister of Public Finance, Elena Udrea, Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Leonard Orban, Minister of European Affairs, former European Commissioner also attended the event. Waldemar Slugocki, Under-Secretary of State in the Regional Development Ministry of Poland, presented the EU Presidency approach concerning the negotiations on the multiannual financial framework. Members of the European Parliament and renowned experts in the field of European affairs and economy also participated.
Daniel Dăianu, former Finance Minister and former Member of the European Parliament, Liviu Voinea, Senior Lecturer at the National School for Political and Administrative Studies, President of the European International Business Academy (EIBA) and Stephen Tindale, Associate Fellow, Center for European Reform have delivered speeches during the session reserved for experts.
