EUROPE DIRECT Centre – Bucharest (May 2021 – December 2025)

The mission of EUROPE DIRECT Centre – Bucharest, hosted by the European Institute of Romania, is to provide an information and communication area meant to enable access to information on EU institutions, policies, priorities, as well as the rights and responsibilities of European citizens.

General objectives:

  • inform and engage citizens from Bucharest-Ilfov Region in a constant proactive dialogue regarding the European Union and its future;
  • maintain permanent relations with the local media and EU information multipliers;
  • inform on sensitive issues regarding the European Union;
  • cooperate with the educational institutions in the region and provide training on European topics for teachers and young people;
  • strengthen the existing relationship with other EU information and assistance networks.

Specific objectives for January – December 2024:

  • inform and engage at least 200 citizens from Bucharest-Ilfov Region in a constant proactive dialogue regarding the European Union and its future;
  • maintain permanent relations with at least 5 media organisations and a minimum of 700 EU information multipliers, by informing and involving them in the activities carried out;
  • inform the citizens on at least 10 sensitive issues regarding the European Union;
  • cooperate with at least 10 educational institutions in the region and provide training on European topics for at least 50 teachers and 100 young people;
  • strengthen the relationship with at least 8 EU information and assistance networks in the region.

Activities planned for January – December 2024:

  • provide information services both ad-hoc, to the Centre’s visitors, and upon request, following a phone or email enquiry;
  • manage and update the EUROPE DIRECT Bucharest website and its social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube);
  • collaborate with bloggers and/or vloggers, and other opinion leaders who operate in Bucharest-Ilfov Region or in the country;
  • organise European information seminars in schools from Bucharest-Ilfov region;
  • supply the educational institutions from Bucharest-Ilfov Region with teaching materials;
  • hold interactive dialogues with the citizens of Bucharest-Ilfov Region;
  • perform Social Theatre shows under the Roadshow called “It’s up to you to make a change!” (topic: European Parliament elections 2024);
  • organise open space and living library events, in line with the communication priorities of the European Commission;
  • provide the teachers with a training session on actual European topics, in line with the communication priorities of the European Commission (e.g. Fake news and the European Elections 2024);
  • organise a Summer School focused on the PhotoVoice method;
  • hold experience and good practice exchanges with other EUROPE DIRECT Centres in the European Union.

The project budget allocated for January – December 2024 amounts to EUR 43,906, out of which EUR 30,400 represent the European Commission’s contribution and EUR 13,506 represent the European Institute of Romania’s contribution.

Project team:

  • The team is made up of a full-time project coordinator and other part-time members, who are experts from different services and specialised departments of the European Institute of Romania and who carry out specific activities under the EUROPE DIRECT Bucharest project, as per their expertise.
